这个及物动词(瞬时动态)的意义和用法,对中国人有点新鲜。
(1) 宾语可以是人,此时address表示:
1、在一群人面前发表演讲。
He addressed a mass meeting. 他在一次群众集会上讲了话。
2、称呼某人为(as...)。
She always addressed me as "my daughter." 她总是把我叫做“我的女儿”。
(2) 宾语是某个主张、建议、要求之类,address表示“提交”,提交的对象用介词to引入。
He addressed some general remarks to the gathering.
他向会议提交了一些一般性的意见。

(3) 宾语是信件,address表示“致送”,收信件人也是用介词to引入。
The letter is addressed to the president. 信件是致送总统的。

address最主要的用法是名词地址,也有演说,称呼的意思,作为动词可表示演讲、解决的意思。如:
We want to see, as I said, what steps the Syrians are willing to take to address our issues.
