After a discussion（状语） they （主语）agreed to accept（谓语）whoever they thought was fit for the job （宾语从句）。
they thought是插入语，看句子成分时暂不考虑，于是宾语从句是：
whoever was fit for the job
是从句，所以主语必须是主格，不能是宾格，所以B，D都错。
而whoever既可以做主语，也可以作宾语。

fit是形容词，自然不能单独放在从句中，所以be fit for.适合。。。

A，ranked，过去分词，表被动或过去式，排列第二不是被动的意思；
如果表示过去式的话，应该是and ranked second...，两个动词之间不能什么都不加。

B,to rank, 不定式表目的，不能说中国的奖牌的目的就是为了第二名；

逻辑主语与主句的主语不同时：分词必须有自己的主语．例如:
Time permitting, I will finish another lesson．
