汉翻译成英文为Chinese。如果是指朝代则翻译成han。

汉（拼音：hàn）是汉语通用规范一级字（常用字）。此字初文见于西周金文。汉的本义通常认为是天河、银河、星河，最早见于《诗经》；又指汉水。

古人把天上的银河看作是天上的汉水，故有“天汉、河汉、星汉、霄汉”等说法。汉曾用做朝代名。汉王朝国力强盛，故后世称中国的主体民族为汉族。
