look for，find，find out 与 look up 都有“寻找、查找、发现”的意思，但它们用法不同：
1、look for 强调寻找的动作和过程，意思是“寻找”。如：
​He looked for his pen everywhere , but he didn't find it . 他到处找他的钢笔，但是他找不到。
​What are you looking for? 你在找什么？
They were looking for their teacher everywhere, at last they found him at the library.他们到处寻找老师，最后在图书馆找到了他。
2、find 强调寻找的结果，意思是“找到”。如：
​I find my book.我找到我的书了。
I find my car.我找到我的车了。
​3、find out 指经过反复调查、研究之后“搞清楚、弄明白。如：
Please find out who broke the window . 请查一下是谁打坏窗。
​Please find out when the train starts. 请查明火车什么时候开。
Find out the answers from two of your friends. 从你的两个朋友那里找到答案。（用find out，表示句中的主语是通过打听、询问后才得到答案的。）
​4、look up 抬头看，也指在词典等资料里查阅、查找。如：
I look up a few words.我查了几个字。
​I look up Peter yearningly. 我渴望见到彼得。
​I look up several old friends. 我拜访了几位老友。
​Don't look up the dictionary. 不要查字典。
I think I'd better look that up. 我想我得查一下。
