英语中有相当部分有着拼写容易混淆的词汇（如quite,quiet,quit等），在英语阅读过程中，人们经常遇到了很多这样的词，尤其在某些不太熟悉的词汇之间，容易判断失误，为此重点对于这些容易混淆的词汇进行学习记忆是有必要的。
在汉语中，我们称这样的词为“形近词”
Effluent, 废水,污水(尤指工厂排出的化学废料)（liquid waste, especially chemicals produced by factories, or sewage ）
例：Dangerous effluent from some chemical plants is being poured into the river through the town.
Affluent, 富裕的(having a lot of money and a good standard of living)
例：He is an affluent man.（1）促进；助长；培养；鼓励 ( to encourage sth to develop)

例：The club's aim is to foster better relations within the community.
2.Galvanize, to make sb take action by shocking them or by making them excited使震惊；使振奋；激励；刺激:
例： The urgency of his voice galvanized them into action.
Pulverize, to defeat or destroy sb / sth completely 彻底击败(或战胜)；摧毁
例：We pulverized the opposition. 同义词：crush.
