At midnight on 21 June 2003, JK Rowling’s fifth book “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix<哈利•波特和凤凰令>” hit bookstores worldwide. By the end of that day, 5 million copies of “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” were sold(销售) in the United States and 1.8 million copies in the United Kingdom.
Rowling did not write Harry Potter with a target(目标) audience(读者) in mind nor(也不) did she thought about writing it for children. It was the children’s book that chose(选择) her. She has been credited for introducing the concept of recreational(娱乐的) reading to a generation computer-distracted(痴迷电脑) kids. Harry Potter’s readers come from all ages---despite(尽管) being a children’s book, it has a crossover appeal(吸引) to adults and teenagers as well as children.
