During this festival, various memorial activities are held to remember revolutionary ancestors and commemorate heroic martyrs. Customs include郊游踏青 and 扫墓祭祖. Tomb-Sweeping Day, together with春节, 端午节, and 中秋节, is considered one of the "Four Major Traditional Chinese Festivals." In addition to China, other countries and regions also celebrate Tomb-Sweeping Day, such as Vietnam, South Korea, Malaysia, and Singapore. On May 20, 2006, the Tomb-Sweeping Day, submitted by the Ministry of Culture of the People's Republic of China, was approved by the State Council as the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage list.
